Police Warn El Pasoans About Furniture Scam

EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Police Department is warning the public about a furniture scam.

Officers describe a Hispanic male, about 50 -55 years of age, 5’10”, medium build and well- groomed, they believe is involved in a furniture scam that has been going on about four months.

Investigators say the suspect speaks loudly on a cell phone in crowded business locations about having “free” furniture he must get rid of. Once he attracts individuals, he then shows them pictures of furniture items and explains that the only catch is that they must pay $10 per piece of furniture for taxes and delivery fees.

Other times he takes the money and gives them an address on Larry Mahan Dr. where they are to pick up their furniture. The victims never receive the merchandise and there is no such warehouse with furniture at the Mahan location. The furniture he describes is usually around $70 to $80, police said.

The suspect has been described as driving a brown four-door Nissan with New Mexico license plates.

El Paso police are asking for the public’s help in capturing this individual and ask if you suspect a criminal offense to please call (915) 832-4400.
