County Officials Testify In Support Of County Ethics Commission Bill

EL PASO — A public hearing for a bill that wouldallow the creation of a beefed-up countyethics commission was heldMonday in the Texas legislature.

The bill issponsored by freshman Rep. Marisa Marquez.

The county wants to toughen its ethics rules byallowing its ethics board to sanction individuals with fines and turn over issues for civil prosecution, something that requires legislative approval.

El Paso County Attorney Jose Rodriguez and County Commissioner Anna Perez testified before the Texas LegislatureMonday in support of the bill. Click on the link to theleft to read testimony from Rodriguez.

It’s the first time the legislature has ever been asked to do such a thing by any county in Texas.
