County Judge Extends Gang Injunction For Two Weeks
EL PASO, Texas — Judge Javier lvarez extended an injunction against 27 alleged members of the “Bloods” street gang for two weeks.
The injunction, which went into effect March 20, created two safety zones, one in the Devil’s Triangle and the other in a large area around Andress High School, to combat gang violence in Northeast El Paso.
Under the injunction, the 27 individuals are not allowed to gather with other gang members, use profanity, possess weapons, possess alcohol, be on school property or possess graffiti materials inside the safety zones.
They are also prohibited from using pagers, beepers or cell phones or throwing gang signs.
At Wednesday’s hearing, the alleged gang members were allowed to challenge their affiliation with the gang or fight against their inclusion in the injunction.
The request for the extension was made by the El Paso County Attorney.
