Police: SWAT Situation At Westside Motel Was Not Hostage Situation

EL PASO, Tx – A SWAT situation at a Westside motel was not a hostage situation, police said Thursday afternoon.

They also said no weapon was recovered in the investigation.

Policewere called to the Mesa Innat 4151 N. Mesa about 4 a.m. Thursday morning after receiving information that a woman was possibly being held against her will by a subject with a gun.

No one answered the door at the apartment, so SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams were called. The situation lasted about 5 1/2 hours, during which time Mesa was blocked off from Brentwood to Executive, creating major traffic back-ups. Residents of the Mesa Inn were also evacuated.

“The SWAT team ended up making entry into the apartment. The front door had been opened,” said El Paso police spokesman Chris Mears. Mears said that someone opened the door from the inside.

A 23-year-old black male and a 21-year-old Hispanic female, both from East El Paso, were taken into police custody and detained for further investigation. Their identities were not released. No charges have been filed as police continue to investigate.
