6-Year-Old Seriously Injured In ATV Crash In Sparks

SPARKS, Texas — A 6-year-old boy is in serious condition after suffering a severe head injury in an ATV crash, El Paso County Sheriff’s officials said.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, deputies found a 14-year-old boy and the 6-year-old injured after the ATV they were riding in collided with a parked pick-up truck in Sparks. They were traveling west on Clemson on a blue 2005 Kawasaki ATV.

The 14-year-old apparently lost control while driving on a curve on a dirt residential roadway, which caused the front tire to strike a Ford F-350.

The 6-year-old boy struck the side view mirror of the parked truck with his head. The laceration required immediate surgery, sheriff’s officials said. He was in stable but serious condition with possible life threatening injuries.

The 14-year-old sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both children were transported to Thomason Hospital.

Neither child was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sheriff’s officials said.

Witnesses told sheriff’s investigators that the children were traveling recklessly in the area. Dispatch operators had received a 911 call in reference to the children minutes before the crash.

Officials said charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
