ABC-7 Rides Along As Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Sex Offender

EL PASO COUNTY, Texas — El Paso County Sheriff’s investigators say an ongoing surveillance sting has led to the arrest of a wanted sex offender.

Twenty-nine-year-old Hermilo Barrera was convicted for indecent exposure with a child relative. Now sheriff’s deputies say he is being charged with failure to register his address.

Barrera was seen living in a Horizon house he was not allowed to be at.

Neighbors in that area said he was seen peeking through windows and trying to get access into people’s homes.

“Surveillance and intelligence that we get from neighbors is very important in putting a case together,” said El Paso County Sheriff’s spokesman Jesse Tovar about the testimony they received from people who have had run-ins with Barrera.

Barrera was eventually found in a Socorro house and told ABC-7 he thought he was up to date with his registration.

Sheriff’s deputies said this bust was all thanks to the cooperation between detectives and the Strike Team members.
