Wind Advisory In Effect Until 2 A.M.

EL PASO, Texas — A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service has been extended to Thursday at 2 a.m. The strongest gusts are expected to hit about 8 p.m. tonight.

Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph will continue throughout the evening and gusts of 55 mph are expected. Gusts of 51 mph were recordedWednesday afternoon in El Paso, and 48 mph gusts were recorded in Las Cruces.

The advisory is for west Texas and southern New Mexico including El Paso, Dona Ana, Otero and Hudspeth counties. Gusts reaching 40 mph are expected on Thursday.

Visibilities in spots may be reduced due to blowing dust. High-profile vehicles are urged to use caution.

A high wind warning has also been issued for Culberson County in Texas and Lincoln and Otero counties in New Mexico. Winds there are expected to stay in the 30 to 50 mph range with gusts near 60 to 70 mph. Gusts of up to 62 mph had been recorded in Ruidoso on Wednesday.

The warning is issued until 6 p.m. Thursday. Winds are expected to increase late tonight. US-180 between Deming and Hurley is now open after being closed due to the winds. Go to www.nmroads.com for more information on New Mexico road closures.
