A Reminder Of What’s Banned From Bringing Over The Border

EL PASO, TX — Customs and Border Protection officials want to remind you that you cannot bring treats and food from Mexico into the U.S. for the Easter holiday weekend.

While potted plants, fruit, and meat are always prohibited, officials are putting out the warning that you cannot cross through any port of entry with “cascarones,” or confetti eggs.

“They’re not allowed to come in, even if the eggs are boiled or cooked, or anything like that,” says PortDirector Bill Molaski.”We don’t allow those into the country.”

Poultry and eggs could carry the Newcastle disease. The disease severely affects the nervous and respiratory systems of birds, even affecting the thickness and production of their eggs. In humans, most common ailments include pink eye and flu-like symptoms.

Those caught trying to smuggle any banned item face varying punishment depending on the quantity of the illegal item.
