Sheriff’s Deputy Rescues Pet Rabbit From San Elizario House Fire

SAN ELIZARIO, Texas — A sheriff’s deputy rescued a pet rabbit from a serious fire at a San Elizario home Wednesday morning, El Paso County Sheriff’s officials said.

About 8 a.m., deputies responded to a fire in the 13000 block of Yebra Aniz and found the inside of the home engulfed in flames. The San Elizario Fire Department battled the fire with the assistance of the Clint and Fabens fire departments.

A sheriff’s deputy saw the rabbit enter and exit the home as the fire burned. When he learned it was a family pet, he proceeded to quickly enter the home and rescue the rabbit, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities believe the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction that ignited in a furnace room.

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. Two adults and two teenagers lived at the home, which was deemed a total loss.
