Juarez Emergency Units Rescue Man In Cage

JUAREZ, Mexico — Juarez emergency crews made a disturbing discovery on the south side of the city on Wednesday.

Juarez firefighters, social workers and city police found a 40-year-old mentally challenged man who had been left alone inside a locked room, city police officials said.

Rescue units found heavy metal bars in front of the entrance to the brick structure. Neighbors said he had been locked inside for three days with no food or water.

Neighbors told police his mother locked him inside while she left town to visit her other children in the United States.

The rescue units took the man, who said his name is Oscar, to an area shelter. His mother’s whereabouts remain unknown, Juarez city police said.
