Local Boxer Arrested For Burglary In Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Local boxer Austin Trout was arrested and charged Saturday with one count of residential burglary and one count of auto burglary, Las Cruces police said.
Just after 4 a.m. Saturday, police were called to a home on the 900 block of Gilmer Way. An unknown man entered the home and was rummaging through it. Residents woke up and called police.
Police said the homeowner went downstairs and confronted Trout, who was inside the man’s car.
Trout allegedly left on foot and was caught by police later. He was allegedly carrying several items residents had reported missing.
Trout, 23, is a Mayfield High School graduate who just won a minor belt. He was an alternate on the 2004 U.S. Olympic team.
