Southwest Flight Makes Unexpected Long Island Landing
RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) – A Southwest Airlines flight headed to Florida had to make an unexpected stop at an airport on New York’s Long Island.
Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz says a flight attendant reported an electrical smell after takeoff Sunday morning.
Flight 693 had departed from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut at 7:21 a.m. Sunday, bound for Orlando. The cockpit reported a problem shortly after.
The plane landed safely at MacArthur Airport just before 8 a.m.
MacArthur Airport spokeswoman Catherine Green says the 131 passengers and 5 crew members were all evacuated safely.
They boarded another flight and continued to Florida shortly before 10 a.m.
Mainz says the plane was taken out of service and would be examined.
