Authorities: Man Tried To Impersonate Firefighter
Authorities arrested and charged a man Thursday for impersonating a firefighter.
According to the El Paso Fire Marshals Office, investigators from the El Paso Fire Department responded to Bel Air High School after receiving word a man had told school administrators, teachers, and security he was an investigator with the EPFD.
The man, 24-year-old Jaime Lee Carreto, told people at the school he was there to conduct an investigation on high school fires.
EPFD investigators had sought Carreto for several previous incidents in which he presented himself to the public as a member of the El Paso Fire Department.
In one of these previous incidents, authorities found Carreto in possession of EPFD work uniforms, dress uniforms, and firefighting gear.
Anyone who has had contact with Mr. Carreto is asked to call the Investigation section of the El Paso Fire Department at (915) 771-1090.
According to authorities, impersonating a public servant is a 3rd degree felony punishable by two to ten years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
