Man Trying To Travel Cross-Country With Dog And Rickshaw

Many of us like to take long walks – it helps to clear the head or burn off a little stress.

But how about walking from California to Miami?

Meet Allie Stevens, a Vietnam veteran and ex-limo driver from Oceanside, California, who gave up everything but a lightly decorated rickshaw, and started walking.

“This is a road trip for real!” he says.

Allie says he was tired of living life in the fast lane, so he slowed it down. Way down.

“People need to slow down and see how beautiful this country really is,” he says. So now, with his dog Roxie by his side, he’s walking from California to Miami, Florida, trying to break the record for the longest rickshaw walk.

“When I wanna slow down she keeps pulling me,” says Allie of his canine pal. He adds his journey will probably take 18 to 24 months.

By the way, the rickshaw weighs 300 pounds.

Though he’s tried this twice before, Allie says his treks are about so much more. “One of the reasons I enjoy it so much is because I get to meet everybody. Everyone I come across, if they want to stop and talk – let’s talk. Meet people.”
