Barricaded Suspect Manages To Escape From Police, SWAT Team

EL PASO, Tx – A police standoff Saturday night in East El Paso ended with the suspect getting away.

Residents were evacuated from the Valley Ridge Apartments near the intersection of George Dieter and Vista Del Sol around 8pm, and were not able to go back inside until around 1am Sunday.

Police arrived at the complex to arrest a man for a nonviolent felony warrant, but things did not go smoothly.

According to police, the suspect assaulted an officer before running back into his apartment. He was not holding anyone hostage.

Police spoke to the man by phone, but when they couldn’t talk him into coming out, they forced their way into the apartment.

By the time they got in, however, the suspect was gone. Police, who had not released the man’s name as of early Sunday morning, think he left through a window.
