Shapleigh, Moreno Endorse Gonzalez

EL PASO, Tx – Outgoing State Senator Eliot Shapleigh and former State Representative Paul Moreno endorsed Naomi Gonzalez for the District 76 Representative seat this weekend.

According to Shapleigh and Moreno, 14-year incumbent Norma Chavez has a personality that isn’t conducive to getting things done in Austin.

“Session after session we witnessed profanity on the Senate floor. A staff incident to my senior staff member, on the Senate floor. Screaming tantrums in the halls. Her being escorted off the Senate floor for using the F-word,” said Shapleigh.

Chavez says she’s better suited for the job because of her experience and strong-willed attitude, adding Gonzalez’s lack of experience would put the challenger at a disadvantage if she were to win.

“We’re talking to the voters every day and this race about proven leadership and core values. My values are based on Democratic issues and working class issues,” said Chavez in a phone interview with ABC-7.

The runoff election between Chavez and Gonzalez is April 13th.
