Controversy Continues Over School’s Yellow Color

As it turns out there are those who like Whitaker Elementary’s bright yellow color. The controversy over the northeast El Paso school comes after the Castner Heights neighborhood association sounded off saying the school’s color doesn’t match the rest of the neighborhoods color scheme.

At a Friday meeting called by the El Paso Independent School District officials, tempers flared. Neighbors and parents all came out to voice their concerns on the matter. Almost as many opposed the bright yellow as those that supported it.

Christina Fenstermacher who heads up the Keep It Yellow committee said , ” I like it because I don’t think it looks like any other school in El Paso.”

Castner Heights neighborhood association president Billy Medrano said , “This looks like it needs to be in Alameda…it looks like Taco Bell.” Medrano, was making reference to a less affluent and more industrialized part of El Paso.

District officials were initially going to paint the school back to an earth tone, but have put off their plans until a sensible solution is reached by a committee tasked with determing the future of the school’s color.
