Lance Armstrong To Race In Tour Of The Gila Next Week Near Silver City, NM

RadioShack’s Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and Jason McCartney are confirmed to race as Team Mellow Johnny’s at the SRAM Tour of the Gila near Silver City, New Mexico, according to competitive cycling Website VeloNews.com.

The race starts April 28 and lasts through May 2. Leipheimer won the Gila last year.

“Not only do the state and the local fans embrace this race, but the terrain, competition, and timing is perfect. We are looking forward to taking the start in Silver City, it’s a great event,” Armstrong said in the VeloNews article. “It is also a great opportunity to ride with our U23 squad and check in on their development,” added Armstrong, referring to the Trek-Livestrong team that will compete with a full squad, including world pursuit champion Taylor Phinney.
