Magazine Names El Paso 3rd Heaviest City In US

Delicious Mexican food appears to have its drawbacks – expecially if you’re not exercing afterwards.

El Paso’s made a top 10 list it doesn’t want to be on: heaviest cities in the country.

The Sun City came in third in the annual rankings done by Men’s Health. Four other Texas cities made the top 10, including Corpus Christi at No. 1.

Men’s Health arrived at the by calculating the percentage of people who are overweight, the percentage with type 2 diabetes, the percentage who haven’t left the couch in a month (CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System); the money spent on junk food (Bureau of Labor Statistics); and finally, the number of people who ate fast food nine or more times in a month (Mediamark Research).

David Peregrino, a trainer at Crossfit El Paso East, says a key component to losing weight is exercise. He also said exercising in a group environment helps.

“Working out in a class setting can be very fun,” Peregrino said. “Students support each other, bond and make friendships as they get into great shape.”
