Police Identify Man Killed In Far East El Paso Wreck

A vehicle crash in east El Paso left a man dead and two other people injured early Saturday morning.

The crash happened on I-10 East near Zaragosa at about 2:20 a.m. An officer on the scene told ABC-7 a Saturn Ion crashed into an SUV that had broken down on the side of the road.

Police identified the man who died as Joel Munoz, 24. They said he was in the backseat of the Saturn, which was being driven by Matthew Romero, 22. Investigators said Romero lost control of the Saturn and crashed into the SUV.

Munoz was dead when officers arrived at the crash scene. Emergency crews said Romero and another passenger in the car were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe Romero was intoxicated and speeding when he crashed into the SUV. However, no charges have been filed. The wreck is still under investigation.
