People Looking For Ways To Battle Heat
With high temperatures forecast to hit triple digits through the weekend, those who are stuck outside will have to find ways to beat the heat.
The hot temperatures didn’t deter many from coming to downtown El Paso. No surprise – refreshment stands have been doing well. “Yes, we have sold a lot of popsicles, water, and soda,” said vendor Miriam Diaz de la Cruz.
But it’s also important that vendors themselves look out for themselves as well. “We’re using fans and drinking water all day because the heat is unbearable,” Miriam added.
A bottle of water is going to be your best friend in combating the heat, and that’s something many people seem to be heeding, including the El Paso Police officers on bike patrol downtown.
“We know what our limitations are and we realize that…if it’s really gonna be pretty hot, then, you know, make sure that we’re hydrated at all times and we stay that way,” said Officer Eric Garcia.
But believe it or not, there is a bright side to this hot weather. “That’s basically one of our good opportunities to make contact with the businesses also, but you know, that gives you a little break to go inside the business – talk to the owners – see how they’re doing, see what kind of problems they’re having,” said Officer Araceli Rosales.
And some people just don’t mind the dry heat. Lana Lymber was in town from Nebraska for the bowling tournament, and said the El Paso heat is better than what she’s used to back home. “So far so good; I mean we’ve had some humidity back home, so kinda, you know, coping with it right now,” she said.
