Father Of Alleged Sex Abuse Victim Talks About Allegations Against Ethics Chairman

The distraught father of a 15-year old El Paso girl claiming sexual abuse against 63-year old David Charles Chavez said he and other family members had no idea the alleged abuse was going on for five years.

“All of us feel guilty,” the girl’s father said. “We didn’t see anything, we didn’t see any signs.”

In an effort to protect the 15-year-old’s identity ABC-7 has chosen not to publish her father’s name.

Chavez, a former Jefferson High School principal, and most recently chairman of the El Paso County Ethics Commission, stepped down from that position last week when the allegations of sexual abuse were leveled against him.

Chavez allegedly sexually assaulted a family member for five years, starting when the girl was 10 years old, according to a complaint affidavit.

El Paso Police arrested Chavez on Friday and charged him with aggravated sexual assault.

The affidavit states Chavez did not use condoms with the girl and that she is pregnant. The affidavit did not state if Chavez impregnated her.

“I hope he prays to God for fogiveness for what he did, and that he realizes how wrong it was,” the girl’s father said.

The father also said he will now seek counseling for his daughter and pursue legal action against Chavez.

Chavez bonded out on a $100,000 bond.

ABC-7 has attempted to reach Chavez for comment but he could not be reached.
