Update: 2-Year-Old Unharmed After Ejected From Vehicle On I-10

A 2-year-old girl was unharmed after being ejected from a vehicle Wednesday morning on I-10 near Vinton.

At about 11:15 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene of the single-vehicle accident on I-10 East at Mile Marker 2.

A 35-year-old woman was driving a 1998 Gold Ford Explorer east on I-10 approaching mile post 2 when the right rear tire tread became unraveled causing the driver to veer right and over-correct left, impacting with the median guideline wires.

The Explorer rolled over and the 2-year-old girl, who was seated in her child seat, was ejected about 10 feet as the vehicle came to a rest facing west near the eastbound lanes of traffic. It is not known at this time if the girl was restrained in her child seat.

A 39-year-old woman and 20-year-old man also were passengers in the vehicle.All occupants were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center for further treatment. All occupants were identified as follows:

Driver: Eulalia Macias (35) suffered serious injury (severe laceration to neck & arm)

Front Passenger: Ernestina Macias (39) – non-life threatening injuries

Rear Passenger: Santiago Gutierrez (20) – non-life threatening injuries

Child – Rear Passenger: Melanie Macias (2) – non-life threatening injuries / birthday was yesterday 08/17.

All lanes are now open.
