Late-Night Pedestrian Accident Injures Two

Two pedestrians were hit by a car near the intersection of Cincinnati and Mesa just before midnight Friday.

El Paso police officers responding to the accident found Nicole Calanche, 22, and Ronald Kunkel, 20, lying in the road. Police said both had non-life-threatening injuries, but were found conscious.

Police said the vehicle was driven by Xavier Torres, 29, who was driving south on Mesa when Calanche and Kunkel ran out into the road in front of the car.

In a statement released by EPPD, neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash. Investigators also determined the pedestrians had crossed against the signal and the driver had a green light.

No charges have been filed in the case.
