Jill Galus
Jill Galus joined ABC-7 in September 2009.
A Midwestern girl from Michigan, Jill loves everything the Southwest has to offer. Jill comes to the El Paso/Las Cruces area from Phoenix, where she graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. She was chosen to address her class as the student speaker on graduation day in May of 2009. Recipient of a William Randolph Hearst Award in broadcast news, Jill placed among the top five and recently competed in the Hearst Awards National Championship in San Francisco. Prior to KVIA, Jill anchored and reported for the Cronkite School’s award-winning newscast, “Cronkite NewsWatch.”
She feels humbled and inspired to have spent an afternoon speaking with Mr. Cronkite during her first few weeks as a college freshman. Shortly after she arrived at ASU in 2005, Jill anchored a weekly news segment for “Sun Devil Television.” Within four years, Jill completed more than six internships in radio, print, and television. Her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan provided her first internship, at WWMT News Channel 3. In Phoenix, Jill freelanced for the East Valley Tribune while also writing for The State Press. Jill also interned at KTVK News Channel 3, during which she assisted in coverage of Super Bowl 42, and later, KNXV ABC 15 News. She reported for KTAR-FM 92.3 News Radio in Phoenix as well as for the Cronkite School’s, “The Blaze 1260 AM,” news radio station.
Jill has covered stories from the Arizona side of the border, and is looking forward to hearing people’s stories in El Paso and Las Cruces.
Jill always enjoys meeting new people and listening to a great story. She never misses an episode of Larry King Live or Project Runway. An animal lover in memory of her dog, Lexi, Jill is looking forward to getting involved with the Humane Society’s Annual Telethon. Jill says she doesn’t consider reporting a job – doing what she loves hardly feels like work at all.
