As The University of Texas at El Paso nears its 100th birthday, UTEP President Diana Natalicio invites the El Paso community to join in the celebration.

At 2 p.m. today, UTEP president Diana Natalicio will announce the $200 million fundraising campaign – the largest, most comprehensive fundraising initiative in the University?s history. Watch live stream of the announcement here.

University of Texas System Board of Regents dignitaries in attendance will be Chairman Colleen McHugh and Vice Chairman Paul Foster. Also attending is UT System Chancellor Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D.

At the Forefront: The Centennial Campaign for UTEP was established to generate private investment in its colleges and academic programs, endowments for its faculty and students, and funds for new construction and renovation.

The campaign will accelerate UTEP?s momentum toward becoming the first national research university with a 21st century student demographic. It will greatly strengthen UTEP?s capacity to play a key role in the economic development of the Paso del Norte region by enhancing UTEP?s scholarship endowment and providing opportunities for college-bound students in the region?particularly those who are first-generation students. ?UTEP represents the best the American dream has to offer, but we need enhanced support of our friends and alumni to keep us at the forefront for both the sake of our students and the future quality of life of this U.S.-Mexico border region,? Natalicio said.

For UTEP, At the Forefront is a commitment to provide access and excellence in higher education for students of all ages, incomes and academic histories in the Paso del Norte region. It also means hiring faculty and staff who think critically and support research that can be translated and transferred across the country and across the globe.
