Hispanic-Owned Businesses Rise 40 Percent In Texas
A total 447,486 Texas businesses reported having Hispanic owners in a recent survey, ranking the state third in the nation for quantity, according to a report in the Austin Business Journal.
The U.S. Census Bureau calculated the total using data from 2.3 million businesses between 2002 to 2007. The Lone State State reported having about 40.1 percent more Hispanic-owned businesses in 2007 than in the five years previous.
A majority, or about 56.7 percent, are based in Harris, Bexar, Hidalgo, El Paso and Dallas counties, about 80 percent of which are of Mexican origin. Sales by those businesses increased nearly 47.2 percent during the same period to $62.1 billion.
