Truck Allegedly Sold, But Wasn’t For Sale

A man is concerned after a local towing company almost towed his truck off his property, without his permission. The towing company explained they did nothing wrong. But another man has claimed to have bought the truck and asked the towing company how much it would cost to get it towed.

“Thanks to the sheriff’s department reacting so fast, it’s still here because it was on a ride to end up somewhere else,” explained Steven Miner.

He said his GMC moving truck is not for sale, but apparently someone did sell it and someone else bought it.

“The guy that the truck was sold to show up and he actually had a handwritten bill of sale. He didn’t have any title or any legitimate-looking paper,” Miner said.

He owns a piece of land in the 12400 block of Montana Avenue. He said it was the quick-thinking of his neighbors who called the sheriff’s office that helped keep his truck in it’s parking spot.

“They actually got here before the truck was even hooked up to be towed,” Miner said.

Officials with El Paso Towing, the company Miner claims was going to take his truck, told ABC-7 their crew never intended to tow the truck. They were reportedly doing a dry run or checking how much it would cost if the truck was to be towed.

Officials said when they’re asked to removed a vehicle, they always check for proof of ownership from the caller.

In this case the man who allegedly paid $300 for the truck didn’t even have the title.

According to Miner, this isn’t the first time he’s had problems with vehicles taken from his property. He said three cars were stolen from near his property — which is across the street from the El Paso County Jail annex — last week.

“There’s a big rash of car thieving going on. I’m wondering if a legitimate looking tow company show up to take your car, is it legitimate or is it not? I don’t know,” said Miner.

The man who reportedly bought the truck said he’s been trying to reach the man who sold it to him, but hasn’t received an answer.

El Paso Towing management said it was their first time to Miner’s property.

Sheriff’s officials told ABC-7 this is now a civil matter and should be settled in court.
