Update: Fort Bliss Soldier Accused Of Shooting At Police
Major Myles Caggins has confirmed to ABC-7 the man arrested for reportedly shooting at El Paso police officers is a Fort Bliss soldier.
According to Caggins, Ft. Bliss officials are cooperating with the El Paso Police Department in their investigation.
Caggins said Paz was still in jail Sunday afternoon.
Pas was arrested after investigators said he shot at El Paso police officers early Saturday morning.
Police said officers responded to a shots fired call at about 4:20 a.m. in the 10800 block of Rhyolite Drive in Northeast El Paso.
According to authorities the 23 year old soldier shot several rounds from a handgun while driving by Rhyolite Drive.
Investigators said Paz drove toward the officers, fired two rounds in their direction then took off.
The officers reportedly stopped Paz not far from where he fired the rounds. Investigators said they found several bullet casings and a handgun inside Paz’s car.
Paz was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of peace officer, discharge of firearm in certain municipalities (original call) and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a bond of $250,000.
