El Paso Man Charged With Homicide By Vehicle In Deming

New Mexico State Police have arrested and charged an El Paso man in the death of a 49-year-old Juarez man in a two-vehicle accident last Friday on Interstate 10, near Deming.

Kenneth Griffith, 45, of El Paso, was arrested for homicide by vehicle and reckless driving, according to the Deming Headlight. Griffith was released on a $10,500 cash or surety bond.

The accident occurred at about 2 a.m. on eastbound I-10 at milemarker 92. The NMSP said Griffith was changing lanes when his 2006 Freightliner collided with a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Juan Luis Delao Navarrette.

The Yukon overturned four times, ejecting Navarrette.

According to the newspaper article, Griffith told the NMSP the Yukon was moving well below the posted 75 miles per hour speed limit when he attempted to pass the vehicle, looked in his side-view mirror and made contact with the Yukon.
