Representative Joseph “Joe” Moody went to Austin as a second generation public servant. His father, District Judge William Moody and his mother, Magdalena Morales-Moody, an El Paso school teacher have instilled in Joe the value of community service and respect for the laws of Texas.

Representative Joe Moody recently completed the 81st Legislative Session in Austin. In his first session, Joe was able to work effectively for El Paso from day one. Joe requested and was assigned by Speaker Joe Straus to two committees that allowed him to help keep our communities and all of Texas safe. He served on the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, and the Committee on Border and Intergovernmental Affairs. The Criminal Jurisprudence Committee heard proposed changes to the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Border and Intergovernmental Affairs addressed immigration issues and border security.

After completing his first term in the Texas State Legislature, Representative Moody passed legislation to help keep communities safer from gang violence, give property tax relief to our disabled veterans, and help fund local domestic violence centers across Texas. Representative Moody has also been awarded Freshman of the Year by two non-partisan groups, The Mexican American Legislative Caucus, and the Texas District and County Attorneys Association.

Joe was born and raised in El Paso and is a lifelong resident of District 78 and was a prosecutor in the El Paso District Attorney’s office, where he served the public in the courtroom by giving a voice to the victims of domestic violence, burglary and those affected by drunk drivers.

Joe?s life-long work with families and organizations in his community inspired him to run for office so he could better serve El Pasoans. He will continue to represent El Paso with passion, energy and enthusiasm. Currently he is the youngest serving legislator in the State of Texas.
