el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m bob harp. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a live look at a portion of u-s 54 was closed down very early this morning after a rollover wreck involving two vehicles. the wreck happened at about one this morning on the north-bound lanes of the patriot freeway. police say two cars collided and rolled over under the cassidy gate bridge. one of the vehicles hit a traffic pole, causing it to fall onto the middle of the roadway. police have cleared out the scene this morning. one person was taken to william beaumont to william beaumont army medical center with non-life threatning injuries.// a home in the lower valley goes up in flames next to an elementary school. investigators are looking into wether arson was the cause. the fire happened last night on the 200 block of barker at about 8 p-m. fire officials say the home was vacant, but was right next to cedar grove elememtary. witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming out of the house and it did take the 45 firefighters that responded to the scene about 20 minutes to put it out. there is still no word on the cause of the fire, but investigators are not ruling out arson. neighbors tell abc-7 suspicious people always go in and out of the house.// there’s more disturbing details about the high school dance teacher accused of having and taping child pornography. 34-year-old marco alferez has been char charged with five federal counts of child pornography. we got our hands on the indictment and it states eight different cameras were found in alferez’s possession. …including a web camera …two mini pin hole cameras about the size of a dime … … and a mini spy camera. also more than 100 video tapes; some labelled … …”old uppies” … …”voyeur”… …”new uppies with female names”… …and rehearsal upskirt.” the government is also a demanding everything inside alferez’s westside home, his car and earnings of almost 250- thousand dollars. he made that money working at schools in the el paso and ysleta districts. alferez was fired from e-p-i-s-d earli from e-p-i-s-d earlier this month. he did not appeal his termination. he was also the head choreographer for “viva el paso” but officials say they had no plans to bring him back even before the allegations surfaced. loved ones of slain u-s guardsman jose gil hernandez paid their last respects their last respects last night. a rosary was held for hernandez at the mission neral home in central el paso. our camera was not allowed inside, but we saw many people in uniform coming in to participate in the rosary. the 22-year old was shot and killed in juarez last week. the national guard says he was not on active duty and therefore he was not banned from going into mexico. a 43-year old man was also killed in the attack.// new information on this weekend’s massacre at a birthday party in juarez. police say they found the bodies of two men they suspect were behind the killings. the bodies were found inside an s-u-v–with their hands and feet tied together. one of the men had been decapitated. a sign that was left with the bodies accused them of killing woman and children. investigators believe the two men were in involved in friday’s massacre that claimed the lives of 14 people — including 6 women and girls. a survivor told police that a gunman — in his 20’s —opened fire when nobody would answer questions about a car parked outside the house. investigators say a man known as “el raton” or or “the mouse” was the intended target! he survived the attack, but has not been located.// a student at jefferson high school walked into university medical center after he was stabbed on campus. e-p-i-s-d officials say the 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest and arm by a 19-year-old man who was not a student. the man allegedly walked on campus and picked a fight with several students. he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. the teen is recovering. we’re told his wounds were minor.// unacceptable and preventable. dona ana county commissioners passed a resolution against bullying, saying it’s a starting point to stoppingt once and for all. the resolution comes as more and more stories of teens being bullied over their race, ethnic, or sexual orientation are being reported. in the past few weeks, there’s been at least five gay teen suicides across the country. the depa the department of education has new guidelines now that classify bullying as a federal crime. commissioners say talking about bullying is the first step to restoring confidence in gay teens that life does get better when the bullying is left behind.// to an update now on a story we brought you back in march. if you have an electric car or are hoping to buy one – this is good news for you! good morning el paso’s stephanie valle is live with the story, new this morning. stephanie. there will be 32 charging stations installed by the city very soon. several of them will be right here at city hall. the city tells me that there will be two stations here at city hall… and three at the airport. three sun metro bus terminals will have two statio each … and el paso electric’s offices will also have two. utep will have ten throughout campus … and there will be three charging stations at the county’s ysleta and northwest annexes and downtown. all those entities getting charging stations were part of the partnership that worked on getting the grant in the first place. but the sustainability director for the city hopes the private sector will also look at installing the stations… because he thinks if the electric car catches on here, there will be a greater need:// “our approach was, this should open the door. and it should show the people who make these electric vehicles that el paso is interested in electric vehicles and the vehicles and they should market and bring those cars here.” while we initially thought we’d be seeing these charging stations going up by the end of this year… it looks like that will happen in the first few months of next year.// this morning, a rip- roaring storm that spawned tornadoes and damaging winds across the mid-west is mo the mid-west is moving east. blizzards and strong winds will continue to pummel the midwest and the great lakes states as strong thunderstorms batter the east coa. abc’s emily schmidt has the latest on this near-record storm. pkg script: “there’s a tornado warning for…” in a storm unlike almost any in history, from blinding snow in colorado… mos ron anderson/california driver “i wish i’d gone through albuquerque!” …to funnel clouds in tennessee, a million square miles of land have fallen squarely in the path of a weather monster. mos justin schroeder/peotone, illinois tornado victim “you didn’t hear the tornado. you know how they say it sounds like a freight train? you heard a little whistle and there was an explosion of glass everywhere.” at least two dozen tornadoes set off sirens all across the nation’s midsection. mos tom lessnau/wisconsin homeowner “all of a sudden the sky got black and you couldn’t even see out of the window. i heard the crackling sound. it lasted about ten seconds. looked outside and a tree was laying on the ground.” in ohio, leland noffsinger left the field when his wife warned a storm was on the way. mos leland noffsinger/tornado victim “i came in to the house and about ten minutes later a lot of debris started tting th of debris started hitting the side of the house.” he prayed in his house. a few minutes later, his house was the only thing left. mos leland noffsinger/tornado victim “i walked to the back door and looked out and saw everything had been destroyed.” some meteorologists call this the “great lakes cyclone”. hundreds of flights at chicago’s o’hare airport were grounded. mos – traveler at chicago’s o’hare airport “my next flight is after 9 hours.” hundreds of thousands of people are without power. so far, there’s more damage than injuries. but it will take a while for people to get back on their feet after the storm that’s knocked so much off its fodation. meteorologists say this could end up as the second strongest storm ever to sweep through the nation’s midsection, as strong as a category 3 hurricane. emily schmidt, abc news. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… in football, big hits are part of the game. but new regulations will affect student- players suffering from head injuries as a result of those vicious collisions on the field.// plus, if you’re looking to pay off some debt, money reporter stay johnson has helpful advice when it comes to credit counseling agencies..// but first – stormtrack weather!
