Kids Receive Coats From Operation Noel

Thousands of children who need a warm coat this coming winter received one, thanks to Operation Noel.

Many of the 13,000 jackets that were manufactured for the needy El Paso children were distributed Wednesday.

Approximately 125 families at the Kennedy Apartments by Loop 375 and Zaragoza Rd. signed up their children for free coats. Dozens of kids eagerly tried them on as Housing Authority staff unwrapped them from plastic bags.

“They’re excited,” said Veronica Flores of the Housing Authority. “It’s like going to the store and picking out their jacket.”

Coats will be distributed through next week.

“The weather’s going to change, so they’re getting them just in time, and especially for Christmas,” Flores added.

Operation Noel collects donations all year. A $15 donation would pay for one coat.
