Vigil Held For Motorcyclist Killed In Crash
Friday was a somber night for family, friends and loved ones of Anthony Olivas.
Olivas was the man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in east El Paso Thursday night.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Wedgewood Drive and Suez Drive.
Now a cross, flowers and candles mark the deadly spot.
During a vigil Friday night, dozens of people came to the intersection to remember Olivas.
As they wiped away tears, many told stories about the guy they lovingly called “Mighty Mouse.” Friends told ABC-7 he got his nickname for his short height, but huge heart.
They said the 23-year-old Bel Air High School graduate loved cars and motorcycles.
El Paso police investigators said Olivas was speeding on his motorcycle down Wedgewood Drive when a car driven by Andrew Sandate, 18, was headed in the opposite direction turned in front of the motorcyclist.
Police said Olivas was wearing his helmet when he crashed into the car.
He was taken to Del Sol Medical Center, where he died.
Friends said Olivas’ kindess will be greatly missed.
“Anthony was the type of person who’d give his last dime for his friend. He was just the kindest, most generous individual I’ve come across on a long time,” said Francisco Bajaras, a friend.
Friends said there will be a benefit for Olivas at the Tork Bar on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Funeral arrangements have not been set.
