State Rests in Rauch Murder Trial

The State has rested its case in the murder trial of 51-year-old Kenneth Rauch.

Rauch is accused of shooting and killing an El Paso man, Euzebio Escobedo, at a Las Cruces convenience store in 2005. Prosecutors say he walked up to Escobedo’s car and fired a shot into the hood before shooting through the window. Escobedo’s fiancee, Lucia Aldaba, and his three year old son were also in the car. Tuesday, Aldaba, testified that Escobedo threw his body in front of hers to protect them. Another eyewitness identified Rauch as the shooter.

Rauch is represented by well-known New Mexico Attorney Gary Mitchell. They’re expected to argue Rauch was depressed at the time of the shooting. He lost his wife in a fire, and his son in a car accident.
