BCS Champs Auburn Have Assistant Coach With UTEP, Riverside High Ties

Jeff Grimes is in his second year as offensive line coach at Auburn, and had a hand in directing one of the nation’s top offenses during his initial season.

He and the Auburn Tigers were crowned BCS National Champions Monday night in Tempe after defeating Oregon.

Grimes is a native of Garland, Texas, who graduated from the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in education after earning four letters as an offensive tackle for the Miners between 1987 and 1990.

He began his coaching career in 1993 as a high school coach at Riverside High School in El Paso. After two years as the offensive coordinator and line coach there, he moved on to the college ranks, first working as a graduate assistant at Rice (1995) and then at Texas A&M (1996-97).
