Hazardous Materials Leak From Truck In Horizon City

El Paso County sheriff’s deputies said they were dispatched to 1316 Horizon Street in far east El Paso county Saturday afternoon after hazardous materials were reported leaking from a truck.

Just before 4:30 p.m. deputies met with the driver of the truck who alerted them to the spill. She told them her truck was being serviced at a Speed Co Quick Lube when she said she noticed a liquid seeping from underneath the trailer.

The driver told deputies she called 911 for help and drove the truck to a nearby parking lot where Horizon Fire Department established a 200-foot safety perimeter around the truck as a precaution.

Several streets were also closed in the area.

The driver told deputies she was transporting 55 gallon drums containing Trimethylolpropane and Poloxypropylenetriamine, which were confirmed as corrosive and toxic liquids.

Four employees from Speed Co Quick Lube came in contact with the substance. All were decontaminated and released at the scene after they declined hospital transportation.

At about 9:30 PM, the hazardous spill was contained by the El Paso Fire Department Haz-Mat Team.

No injuries were reported.
