UTEP Defeats Houston On The Road

Houston could have used Phi Slamma Jamma on Saturday night against UTEP.

The Miners beat the Cougars, 57-52 in Houston, scoring a rare win for UTEP against Houston at Hofheinz Pavilion. They have posted a 1-5 record in the building with the lone win coming on Jan. 28, 2009 by the score of 62-55. Houston’s second leading scorer and rebounder, Aubrey Coleman, did not play in that game while serving a suspension.

While the Miners haven’t enjoyed much success on the Cougars’ home court, they have been competitive in the six games with all being decided by 10 points or less. UTEP has averaged 61.7 points and Houston 66.7 ppg in the six games. The highest scoring game for both teams was a 77-72 UH victory on Jan. 19, 2008.

UTEP senior guard Randy Culpepper had 18 points, while Jeremy Williams had 15.
