Freezing Temps Causing Water Outages

El Paso Water Utilities (EPWU) has been experiencing some outages in different areas of the city, primarily on the west side, due to frozen equipment. EPWU field crews have worked to restore service to most areas and continue to work on others at this time. We will continue to work around the clock monitoring the system and checking critical areas.

The freezing temperatures are also causing exposed pipes and service lines on private properties to freeze. Please understand that these lines will eventually thaw out. We recommend the following tips from the American Red Cross website since freezing temperatures are expected again tonight.

* Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage. * Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children. * When the weather is very cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing because the temperature of the water running through it is above freezing.
