Authorities ID Man Found Dead In Far East El Paso County

El Paso County sheriff’s Investigators have identified the man found dead in a desert arroyo in January as Howard James Paul, 76.

Authorities said he was born in Konawa, Okla.

Paul’s exact cause of death is still unknown and officials said autopsy results were pending.

At 9:25 a.m. on Jan. 26, Paul’s body was found after deputies were called to the desert area near the 700 block of Janis in reference to a possible dog mauling.

Investigators said Paul was a transient who had been living in an arroyo behind nearby businesses for several days.

Detectives still investigating his death said it is policy to treat all unattended deaths as they would a homicide until it is ruled otherwise.

Investigators previously indicated that foul play was not suspected in this death, but the autopsy should shed more light on what actually happened to Paul.
