Where Was Mayor John Cook During El Paso’s Water Problems?

ABC-7 has received several e-mails asking where El Paso Mayor John Cook was during water problems in the Sun City.

Cook told ABC-7 on Monday that he was in Austin to move his granddaughter, who just graduated from UTEP, to that city.

Cook worked a half-day on Friday and left to Austin. Cook was driving back to El Paso when he talked to ABC-7 and said he hoped to be in El Paso by 8 p.m. Monday.

Cook said while in Austin he has been in constant contact with utility and city officials.

It was Cook who declared the water emergency over the weekend that authorized the El Paso Water Utilities to expand the mandatory water restrictions to allow the utility to force businesses that use excessive water to close
