Update: Man Killed In Friday Traffic Accident Identified

The El Paso Police Dept. Has identified the man killed in a traffic accident early Friday morning as Carlos Gonzalez, 46, of the 350 block of Thunderbird.

Police said that at about 2:29 a.m. Friday, Gonzalez was driving a 2001 Mazda Millenia east on 400 block of Sunland Park Drive when he veered to the right, driving over a raised curb, and struck a traffic control signal pole at the intersection.

Gonzalez was the sole occupant/driver of the Mazda, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, police said.

Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor and toxicology is pending, according to police.

This is the 12th traffic collision of 2011 compared to six at this same time in 2010.
