Man Dies After Crashing Into Socorro Ditch

A man is dead after a reported high-speed chase in Socorro early Saturday morning.

Authorities said it happened along North Loop Drive in El Paso’s lower valley shortly after midnight.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials said troopers tried to make a routine traffic stop on a Chevy pick-up truck. They said the driver did not pull over which lead to the chase.

Investigators said at one point, the troopers lost sight of the truck, but later found it overturned in a ditch near the intersection of North Loop Drive and Bauman Road.

According to authorities, a preliminary investigation has shown the driver lost control as he was trying to drive along a curve.

Residents who live near where the crash happened said this isn’t the first wreck they’ve seen, and they’d like to have lights or reflectors placed along that curve.

“Something needs to be done. We get a lot of accidents and my family is at risk here, too. If we get a trailer, because we get big trailers around this street, maybe that one will go into my house — my property. Yes, I am afraid,” said Corina Bollainygoytia.

Officials have not released the driver’s name. They said he was a man in his 40s.
