Motoryclist Killed On Saturday Was From Fort Bliss; Identity Released

The driver of the motorcycle who died in Saturday morning’s traffic fatality has been identified as 21-year old Juan Collado of Fort Bliss.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at 12:35 a.m. Saturady in the 5000 block of N. Mesa. Collado died at the scene. El Paso Police said the preliminary investigation has revealed that Collado, the operator of a 2007 Suzuki GSXR, was sound bound on N. Mesa traveling at a high rate of speed.

The motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and drove over a raised curb, striking several steel fence posts and a traffic sign, according to police. He was wearing a helmet. Police said they have determined that speed is a contributing factor but it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

This is the 14th traffic collision of 2011 compared to nine at this same time in 2010.
