Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Mobile Home
El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man in Fabens who allegedly was drunk when he crashed his station wagon into a mobile home.
Eduardo Ortiz, 40, of Fabens, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to sheriff’s official. At about 1 a.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies were sent to the 300 Block N.W G Ave in Fabens and saw a grey Dodge Magnum with heavy front damage had slammed into a mobile home.
Deputies made contact with the driver, Ortiz, who was the sole occupant in the car, and was highly intoxicated standing outside the vehicle, according to sheriff’s officials.
Sheriff’s officials said male driver failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest.
Sheriff’s officials said further investigation by on-scene deputies indicated Ortiz was driving his Dodge Magnum North on NW 3rd St. in a residential area at a high rate of speed when he lost control at a curve & collided with a chain link fence impacting with the mobile home.
The Dodge Magnum hit the mobile home with so much force that the mobile home was moved about two feet due to the impact. There was a family inside of the mobile home asleep at the time of the accident but no one was injured. Ortiz told deputies he had consumed nine beers prior to the accident, according to sheriff’s officials.
