The man accused of killing the head of one of the biggest U.S. health insurance companies has been charged in New York with murder as an act of terrorism. Prosecutors announced the new charge against Luigi Mangione on Tuesday. The 26-year-old suspect is being held without bail in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested at a McDonald’s days after the ambush of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on Dec. 4. Mangione’s lawyer had said he would fight extradition to New York. But Manhattan prosecutors say there are indications he may waive his right to an extradition hearing. With the indictment announced by Manhattan prosecutors Mangione now faces 11 counts, including murder in the second degree as a crime of terrorism.
