Sugar Detox: Day 29
Day 29: Watching Food Pornography Is A Dangerous Thing
It’s everywhere.
Spend a day counting how many images of food you are shown on billboards, fast food windows, and commercials and you’ll lose count before lunch.
The past four weeks I’ve started noticing every mouth-watering image that passes me by.
It’s pornography. Designed for no purpose other than stimulate and arouse your taste buds. You literally begin to salivate at the sight of them.
I think this whole experience may have been made a heck of a lot easier if I wasn’t constantly watching The Food Network.
If I could go back in time 30-days, I would block all TV shows involving cake.
Cake Boss, Ultimate Cake-Off, Cupcake Wars, Ace of Cakes, Wedding Cake Wars, Amazing Wedding Cakes… the list goes on. These shows became my own personal favorite late-night pleasure. Last night I watched a marathon of Cupcake Wars and just about renounced my new lifestyle.
Instead of running to the 7-11 to get a pack of Suzy Q’s to sate my sudden craving for cake and icing, I decided to make a batch of my famous Whoopie Pies. Instead of eating them myself over the course of a week, I made a deal with myself. I would allow myself to make them, but I would bring them into the studio for everyone else to eat.
I’m so proud of myself. I even let Jack lick the beaters (my favorite thing about cooking) and I only had three bites of the finished product.
I thought it was a fitting final test to see if I could resist having the cream filling sitting in my fridge without me finishing it before I made the actual chocolate patties (which actually happened once).
I’m happy to say I passed.
