Update: Police ID Man Killed In Tuesday Night Crash

One man was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday night on U.S. 54 near the Fred Wilson exit.

El Paso Police identified the man as Hubbard Dorsey, 62, of the 4500 block of Croton.

Police said the investigation revealed that Dorsey and Donald Eimer, 49, of the 3300 block of Emerald were driving on U.S. 54 North, following each other at a high rate of speed at 8:46 p.m.

Police said Dorsey lost control of his F150 and slid from the far left lane, across the traffic lanes before colliding with the right guardrail.

Dorsey’s actions forced Eimer to brake and veer to the right, colliding with the guardrail and then veer into the lanes of traffic, police said. Dorsey’s vehicle continued over the guardrail, rolled over, and hit a cement wall to the on-ramp of Spur 601.

The truck traveled back towards the guardrail, coming to rest on the guardrail. Dorsey was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Eimer, was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the offense of DWI.

El Paso Police Special Traffic Investigators said they have identified speed and failure to wear a seat belt as factors in this collision. It is unknown if alcohol is a factor at this point in the investigation and that determination is pending toxicology results, police said.

This is the 17th traffic collision of 2011 compared to 13 at this same time in 2010.
