ABC-7’s Jennifer Myers Sugar Detox Results

Thirty days ago I embarked on a sugar detox to improve my diet and hopefully shrink my waistline.

I’m a self-professed sugar-holic, but after finding out that my eating habits could lead to diabetes in less than a decade, I decided it was time for a change.

Most dietitians recommend getting less than 40 grams of sugar per day. I was consuming more than four times that amount on a daily basis.

I was tired, lethargic, moody, and had gained 15 lbs in just four months thanks to my dismal eating habits.

I started my detox weighing 165.6 pounds and now I’m down to 158. That’s 7.6 pounds lost without ever setting foot in the gym.

The biggest difference I saw was around my midsection. I lost nearly two inches from my waist and an inch and a half from my hips. Where I used to feel soft and bloated, I’m now much thinner.

My nutritionist was proud, but not surprised by my results.

“These results are very typical. When you drop your sugar levels in your body, and when you drop your portions, which you were portion controlling, you’re going to see great results,” said nutritionist Javier Gutierrez. “Your body is going to thank you with the inches and the weight that you’ve lost.”

I also started drinking up to eighty ounces of water a day, which was no small feat, to help keep me feeling full and also help curb my sugar cravings.

Was it easy? No, in fact, learning self-control when it comes to food was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

In the end I conquered my cravings, gained a ton of energy, and I feel better than I have in years.
