Man Accused of Shooting Girlfriend’s Son

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Rudy Luevano, 33, is accused of shooting his girlfriend’s son Sunday evening. Las Cruces Police said the 19-year-old victim is recovering at University Medical Center in El Paso. They said his wound is not life-threatening.

The shooting took place in the 800 block of Mimbres Street. According to Las Cruces police, officers were called about a fight between Luevano and the victim over missing jewelry. At one point, Luevano grabbed a .22-caliber handgun and shot the victim in the forehead, police said.

Police said Luevano and the victim were found at different locations moments after the shooting.

Luevano was arrested and is now facing one count of aggravated battery that may cause death or great bodily harm, and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
